Legality of HID headlights in FL?

Whats the Florida law, as far as aftermarket HIDs go? Can you use any color temperature youd like? If not which temperatures are legal to use? Are they suppose too only be legally used in a projection headlight display? How "legal" is it too buy these cheap ebay HID kits and blind people as you drive? Is there even any law in FL prohibiting the use of HIDs?

i don't know for certain but i'm pretty sure it's illegal to modify the headlight at all.

that being said, if you put them in a proper housing and keep them at a near OEM level (4300K-5000K or so) I'd think you would be fine.

I would just stick with 4300k HIDs, everything else IMO looks ricey.

idk, i like the softer blue ones, but im a for-show car person.. my damn projectors are aimed way down so I wouldnt be blinding anyone anyways lol. but when people put them in lifted trucks with no projectors, its blinding. I see them all the time down here, are the police light on them or something?

I like a soft blue something along the 6000k range, but im hesisitant on purchasing them if im going to get pulled over in my daily driver SRT4 because of it. The halogens I got in there now are just plain garbage, the silverstars are junk. I need something to illuminate the road a little better. Driving back from Miami on the FL Turnpike I could of avoided a near close accident if I had a brighter display.

5000K here too. Just bright solid white. 4300K look good too.

Some seem to think a 5000K will be blue, but mine arent in the slightest.

I thought about 3000K fogs on my truck but mehhh I dont care enough.

Well if you're serious about wanting it to illuminate the road better, than you don't want a blue light.

As you get higher in the temperature range and introduce more color you're actually reducing the amount of visible light. Stick with nothing higher than 5k. It still looks like a nice HID light, but will give you what you want. I put HIDs in my car because of the same reason you mentioned. My stock lights were fucking HORRID.

Makes sense. Shine a blue light on a red or green object, and what will you see? Not much. I noticed this one day when I was stopped at a light next to a car with blue-leaning HID's. I could see where his lights were shinging on vehicles travelling on the cross street, and you really couldn't see much.

The other night, I saw a vehicle with blue HID headlights and pink fog lights. I can only wonder how long before he gets a ticket! Also reminds me of one Saturday night a few months ago where I was on 441, and I saw a whole string of cars turning on to one of the main cross streets -- could've been Sand Lake Road. They must have been all going to some kind of show or event, as I saw just about every color of headlight except white!
And when I came to, I had a VISION! A REVELATION! A PICTURE IN MY HEAD! A picture of THIS! The FLUX CAPACITOR!

From what I remember if they aren't factory they are illegal... Which I think is a bullshit law... Hid's are better than sylvania silverstars... But anyway... As long as you keep it lower than 6000k and above like 3500/4000o you will be fine... My camaro never had projector housings but I aimed em so I made sure I didn't blind people... If you have a projector housing I would deffinately not worry...

Thanks for the responses guys, this is the kind of information I wanted. Im going to be purcashing a 4300k HID kit, hopefully it does what I want it too. Now the next question, do most people buy these kits for just there low beams? As I seen "some" of the kits dosent include HID high beams as well.

what bulb does your car use?

I can tell ya this- my truck uses a 9007 bulb, and I have the "hi-lo" kit that moves the bulb in and out using an electromagnet setup for low and high beam...

And its a complete waste of money. If youre going to retrofit projectors they probably work, but if not, it just changes the light pattern a little.

Maybe you can find someone with a set laying around and try them out? I mean, a plug and play kit can be throw in and ziptied to see if you like them...

Your headlights must be stamped DOT, otherwise, you can be ticketed. Same with your taillights. Color temperature that isn't "white" can also be ticketed.

They come in Canada with HIDs, when I had my 6 I threw some in my lows and they were already aimed perfect for HIDs, no blinding issues or anything, and never received a ticket.

HIDs in non projector headlights will get spotted by the cops first, as long as your headlights are pointed correctly and you have projectors you should be fine, cops just get pissed at the ricers who blind them.
