Any one on child support? (questions inside)

First off I am not a dead beat dad....

Im in search of someone who has been through the intial process. the mother of my child thought she could get more money this way but I know she is in for a surprise . You can say im looking for advice / help on filling out some paper work. also since she is taking it to the next level i want to make sure i can get my son on a set schedule where she cannot deny me my son, something court ordered.

I am dumb as rocks when it comes to the law. I have done alot of research and i havent found any legal help at all... i have a 20 day deadline on returning these forms

I have been through this recently and won....... Lawyer up without a doubt man...Nothing more important than your little one.
Other than a lawyer your gonna take on ALOT more than you are more than likely prepared for.

ok....couple of questions.....

were you ever married to said woman?
is the child proven as your's (if you weren't married)?
do you have steady income and does she have steady income?
Has either of your incomes changed in the past 6 months?

Is there any court order as to custody? How much of the previous year has the child spent with you?

Do you provide medical coverage for the child? does she?

Basically it's like this.....everything is based on income and time of custody.

What you really want is to have the child for as close to 45% of the year as you can....greater than 40% means the child support will be lower. If you have the child more than 60% of the year, she will be paying you child support. Medical coverage is a seperate item on child support with it being split 50/50 above and beyond the child support order. So if you pay for the medical coverage, you can deduct her half of that from what you pay her in child support. If she pays for the coverage, you get to pay more for your child support.

Lawyer up! Being cheap and doing this yourself in the beginning will cost you huge in the long run. I have no experience in this matter (thank God), but common sense tells me that poor preparation now will cost big later.

GET A LAWYER!!!. trust me i have heard bad things when people try to represent themselves in these cases. make sure she isnt slick, so be prepared for anything

I went thru it and luckily I did have a lawyer. I was on good terms with the mother at the time so the payments weren't bad but def get a lawyer.

Also they have been talking on the radio that the laws are changing Jan 1 that will make the amount people need to pay possibly less.

The most important thing in your child custody case is to find a good attorney. See if you have any attorneys in your area that are experts in family law and tend to be some of the best and most dedicated out there.
