Question regarding firearm discharge

I was with my uncle a couple weeks back and he lives out in the boonies north of Tampa and as we were driving along a two lane road, a deer bolted in front of us. My uncle had no time to react and the deer got hit. We pulled over and my uncle and I got out and found minimal damage to the truck but noticed the deer off to the side of the road SCREAMING in pain. Looked like his whole back end was messed up too. My uncle went to his truck and got a revolver out and shot the deer in the head. I asked him if that was legal and he said he didn't know but there was no one around and the deer was in pain.

Now my question is this: I live in a neighborhood with deer (not really in the boonies, but somewhat in the woods) and I was wondering, is it legal to put a suffering animal down with a firearm should something like this happen where I live?

What if its 2am? Not trolling just asking what you would do if they could not be reached..?

They are law enforcement, They work 24/7. Call the local LEO and they can contact them

this, they do a hell of a lot of work at night too. That is when poachers are out.

if u can not get in contact with F&W the contact LOCAL sherrif/city LEO and they will handle same manner as F&W. If u shoot a deer (suffering or not) then u can be (in rare cases) with poaching

Thank for the info. Ever seen fish and wildlife put down an animal suffering or do they try and rescue it? Also, what does a LEO do if F&W can not make it to the scene? What's the handbook say on that one? :P
