    98 Cherokee won't start. HELP!

I have a 98 Jeep Cherokee and it won't turn over. The battery is new and so are the plugs and wires. It turns but sounds like it's struggling and it won't start completely. Any suggestions?

    could be bad starter

let alone maybe fuel pump is going out

if not that then need replace fuel filter...

also check ur battery make sure its good even if it is new...sometimes new can have bad ...lol

just remember theres lots of stuff that can be wrong with a car if it doesnt start over

sometimes lil things such as fuses to a certain engine part could be it

but yea those are the easiest stuff to look for ...

Start checking the fuses, then go from there. Its the inline 6 right? Make sure you put the right plug wires in the right places on the distrubtor

Need a bit more information that "it wont turn over" and "it turns but struggles"
If its barely turning over, or turning over slowly, I would check the charge on your battery.
If its anytihng else. More information would be nice.

sounds like your starter. I just recently changed mine. Originally I could start it up but it struggled. I could hear the belt whine and a few seconds later it would finally fire up. Eventually I would turn the key and nothing at all would happen. No sturggle, no clicking, no beeping sounds, nothing. I changed the battery and connectors and still nothing. Got a new starter and problem solved. IF your symptoms sound like mine, I would try a starter. Hope I have helped.

Crank position sensor? haha buddy, jeeps have distrubitors. If it turns over but kinda starts but doesnt, put the plug wires on the right spots on the distributor.

A distributor doesnt mean it has no CPS. It also has fuel injection. And lets not forget that on some of the newer jeeps, they have gotten rid of the distributor in favor of a coil pack design.

I still say its a battery, but where is our reply saying whether or not it runs now? and what else he has checked?

yup, you might want to do this thing called research before you post. I own a 98 jeep cherokee, and from quite a few threads Ive read about them, the CPS goes out, preventing it from starting. Nice try though.

I had a 95 same motor, weird.. I still say in favor its wrong plugs on the cap, if it didnt start after a tune up, lets not get all technical here, lets look at the base problem and what was done to the car before it didnt start. It ran, did tuneup, doesnt run.. 1st, check everything you just did and verify all connections are correct. Thats basic 101 troubleshooting. No need to tear apart the whole motor when u know u just unplugged wires and maybe mistakenly got one wrong.

damn, Im good. He never said he replaced the plugs/wires, just said they were new. Plus he stated that it was struggling, which led me to believe it would most likely be the cps. ;)

hey man simple troubleshooting... u dont change ur plug wires and check your fuel pump right away if your car dont start right after or anything like that. You go in order.. A, B, C... not skip around and possibly waste $ on buying parts u dont need because your guessing.
