Eclipse vs. 1.8t?

i own a white 3rd generation eclipse and just had a few goods runs with a black jetta 1.8t on university blvd around 1am on thurs night, i was trying to see if the owner was on the board. the passenger was filimg the race so i would like to see it if you are on the board. good race i got it from the launch and you pulled on me alittle in 3rd but stayed even to around 100. i didnt know my little stock 4 banger had it in her..lol. I am the only one that thinks its weird it took a 1.8t till 3rd gear to pull on a near stock RS eclipse that just had a good launch and thats about it lol. the passenger seemed to be pretty suprised when i told him it was the 4cyl eclipse at the next light. Good race anyways

the 1.8 should of ripped you a lot harder, but 1.8t's esp. if they're automatic can launch at highest 2 grand *brake boosting*, they catch their power after it spools *turbo lag*..so then its a catch up process.. going from a roll would benefit him more or less..

not that i saw this race, but i can vouch that his car keeps up pretty damn well for not being the gt....i could see him jumping the guy off the line (especially if the 1.8t wasnt a manual) and holding the lead till top of 3rd....im waiting to call bs untill i could see footage....id say to let the video speak for itself since the jetta had the camera rolling and such

its not bull**** the jetta said at the light he wanted to race and the passenger was filming. i launched reall good and he didnt. i heard his turbo spool and he spun the tires from first to 2nd so i take it he was going and yea he did pull on me in 3rd but he never fully passed me all the way too 100ish.

the jetta was most likely stock... (ie. 170ish hp) If it was chipped the story would be WAY different. The chipped power goes up to ~215hp and 245lb/ft.

I have takin some 1.8t and vr6 jettas before in my 3G RS before, but then mine is also oddly faster than any other NA RS out there.

I've never had a problem with the V6s, so unless its boosted, I dont see how an RS is taking even a bone stock 1.8T or VR6 unless they were automatic.

No, I think its weird too. As soon as I find out who the Jetta driver was, I'm gonna ask him to quit embarrasing 1.8T owners.

But, you said he had a passenger. Did you?

Unless its a factory freak by about 50hp, it aint happening. Now if your car is a manual, and the others are autos then that makes more sense.

i have had some suprising races with my rs. now dont get me wrong by no means am i bragging saying its fast, because i know its not, but this race did take me by suprise so im guessing it was an auto transmission and i did get a real nice jump at the light they were bothing sitting there video taping me and looking at my car after thay said they wanted to race on tape when the light turned and i punched it and took off and they never came all the way back... i definatly would like to see the video. i also believe the car was a gli 1.8t or whatever because it had the stock bbs-ish looking rims on it.

my car is manual and i have beat both manual and auto v6 eclipses. See, with the 3g eclipse they made different ones besides having an I4 and a v6. They also made a fed spec and a cali spec. fed specs were really only made in 2000, and some managed to make it into 2001. Mine happens to be a fed spec which has less cats and a more agressive ecu. The v6's I have beat both in auto and 5spd were cali specs, I have however beat a fed spec auto. Those are probably the ones that you have raced seeing that there are so many more cali specs than fed specs. The fed spec Gt 5spds cae get about a 15.0 1/4 mile in stock from and mid to low 14s with bolt ons

tried to capture another race with a jetta on my own this time. had a few runs with him on 436 holding even everytime. then i finaly got him at the light....and what?....oh he stalls it. another great vw race from the line again...ahahah http://pictures.sprintpcs.com/guest/...erid=SPRINTPCS comments about the ****ty quality video can be directed to claw...
