Old Ford tranny question?

I just bought a 1978 Ford F100 4x4 with a 302 w/4 spd. The tranny is getting kinda weak so i found a C6 auto from a 351m for cheap, but i heard the 351m is considered a bbf but will it fit a sbf?

Its considered a BB but its like a mid-sized block IIRC.

Either way it won't work.

i can probably find ya another 4 speed,im going out mudding tomorrow with a bunch of old school ford guys,im sure one of them has a trans sitting around

so how was it out there?where i went today was nasty!! has had water sitting on it since faye,all the holes that were bad before smoothed out and were passable,the swampy spots were bad,they would clog up my tires and id sink.good thing my v-treads will be on tomorrow.im gonna try the hole i got stuck in again tomorrow with the v treads on this time,lil 36" swampers arent cutting it anymore!!

My truck ended up have the dana gear to gear transfer case which is called the "bulletproof" of all transfers. Also i dont have a 302 i have a 351m or 390 BB so know its time for front and rear lockers!

I gotta check out your mud toy there n2oef

I will look into that, i haven't been there yet. Do you trailer your truck or drive? Can a 2wd truck make it back there with a trailer?

i hate those ^^ people!! i trailer my jeep everywhere,good thing i did this last weekend,broke a driveshaft showin off for the cameras. at bunnell they actually have nice entrance roads and paths.a 2wd truck should have no problems getting in and out with a trailer.if you do,theres a few tractors on site that are there to pull people out when they get stuck!!

Pics of engine? I can tell ya if its an FE (352-360-390-427-428) or a 351/400m... On the FE engine line the intake manifold goes clear down under the valvecovers (valve covers bolt to it) and the pushrods run through it (no that is not a typo lol)

if its an FE you can find headers etc for cheeeep used on fleabay- probably for the 351m too as there were a TON of those trucks and people like to play with them!

Thats cool , i met most of them Saturday night when i went over there with a friend i meet name Jared with a yota on 39s. I made it just about everywhere but it was slick out there. I asked if a big jeep came out there but they just rambled off afew names and jeeps but i didn't your name!! The guy with the 327 isuzu truck was nasty out there.
