E-brake problems On a Windstar

Okay I'm asking for a friend...on the way to work the tire blew out, fine put on the donut, well the "road ranger" was helping out and said to put on the e-brake, (which in my opinion is not really needed snce it's an automatic (FORD windstar)....well now the e-brake handle will not release (go back down). Why?

And for a while now, which I'm not sure is realted or not but the brake light & ABS brake light have been coming off & on, Why? The fluid level is good and the brakes stop the car. I haven't personnally looked at it, because I don't wanna, but any advice would be great just so I can relay back.

Also, after a small test drive, the driver says there doesn't seem to be any resistance while driving, but can't go very fast due to the donut anyway. But after a test smell to the back wheels, it didn't smell like the the back brakes were grinding anyway.

Does this make sense? Please give me some advice. Thanks

as for the handle releasing, Im not sure..maybe when the tire blew it out it made something snag back there?

As for the light coming on occasionally, is the fluid level actually full, or just within the operating range? As the fluid approaches the low end of the operating range going over bumps or hard braking can slosh the fluid to one side just enough to briefly uncover the fluid level sensor

Sorry. Let me rephrase that....the tire didn't "Blow out" just a flat, and it was the front drivers side tire. And the fluid level appears to really be full.

Probably a faulty sensor for the light. And I'd be willing to bet that being a Windstar is why the e brake handle won't go down.

Windstar was not Ford's best moment, IMHO.
