    1995 contour starting problem

    a ladie gave me a 95 contour. it dont run. she said it needed a starter so i put one on she said you had to hit it so it had a bad spot. it has 150000 miles. v6 its leather sunroof loaded auto. great looking car for a dd other then this problem


    now the problem is when you turn the key the lights will turn on in the dash and everything but when you turn the key to start nothing happens it dont ignitiate the starter. it has a new ignition switch too. but when you jump the starter with a flat head it starts and runs fine what to do now??????

    No possibility of a starter disable aka alarm system on it?

    Who put in the new ignition? And do you mean the switch, or the tumbler/lock, as most people call one the other a lot...

    On one of my cars, the starter lead that goes to the solenoid has a plug about halfway along so you can just unplug when you drop the drivetrain out instead of fighting the wire off the solenoid, any chance of something that simple?

    The good thing is it sounds like youre one wire from having a nice dd!

    i replaced the ignition switch the electricle peice. the alarm is there i cut alot of wires thinking it was disabling it and still same thing. im thinking reply but doutful or the alarm it will start if i do a puch button but then who will buy a car you start with that so i want it to look good its driving me nuts.

    well, heres what i would do from here, and this is just my opinion but eh here it goes...

    Get to the back of that switch again if you can, and see if there iis power to the terminal that should go out to the starter. If so, you know theres something in between screwing you.... If not, then you have a switch issue still.

    From there, if ya cant sort it out as to what is keeping the starter dead, then run a new wire from the switch clear down to the starter if thats what it takes, would still look decent and start with the switch then...

    I am a bit over-picky and would sort through 75% of the car til i found what killed the lead between switch and solenoid, but if ya got power from the switch, a new wire run from there might be a less annoying alternative?
