cool vid I took today at school...

This is my 99 grand prix 3.8L with 278k miles on it. It has a crazy misfire that's finally been diagnosed down to collapsed lifter/worn cam lobe on the intake side of cylinder 5. Here's a vid of the engine running without the valve cover. You can notice that the far right rocker arm doesn't move as fast or as much as the others.

Ive had a lot of time on W-Body so here's 1 small piece of advice although youre already taking care of it if youre down to valve work: replace the headgasket. Those Aluminum V6s are very reliable as long as you replace the headgasket every 125000 or so miles. 2 out of 3 of my Wbodys had a headgasket issue, one at 130k one at 165k. The other WBody was just bad condition and blew up, but that was due to previous owner's abuse.

Ps what you were doing with your lips was amazing.

Well I don't plan on removing the heads until I actually have to. This baby is still running strong, compression numbers are great, and I don't have a backup vehicle as of yet. I appreciate the input though, I'm definitely gonna get that done asap. My dad is the original owner and put all these miles on it himself, so with some continued preventative maintenance and extra tlc, this puppy is headed..TO INFINITY, AND BEYOND!

Im sure at 278k its had a headgasket replacement by now. Id ask your dad when he changed it.

Those things have a habit of warped the gasket and letting either coolant into the oil system happened to my Lumina, or oil into the coolant system, happened to my dads Impala. Both did it around 150k miles, so Im sure your dad has replaced his at that high milage.

I dont know if you're talking about the issues I was talking about but I've dealt with it on 3.1s and 3.4s of the GM aluminum V6s from many cars ranging from 1989 to 2005. They are nearly identical motors.
