    Entry level IT jobs/interships

I understand this is pretty far and few between, but does anyone know of anything entry level as far as IT goes?

Everything I seem to be finding either wants 2 years of experience, or is an internship with insane requirements (I saw one that >required< "2+" years of C++, on an... internship?).

Is Orlando just the wrong place to be? I'm in the Oviedo area and I'll take anything that doesn't require a huge experience. If anyone could give me a heads up on anything that would be great. I've been working in the wrong fields for too damn long and need to start accruing experience before I graduate!

From what I've been told from various professionals and professors at UCF, anything Helpdesk is probably a good place to get started.

There is zero money in being a computer janitor, even more so in Orlando.

    Hope this helps!

Follow up, I know someone who graduated UCF with a 4.0 in Computer Science. He makes more money teaching English in Japan and Korea than working in the US. I dropped out of college when my CCNA and AS degree got me $10/hr. and a degree would not have helped me anywhere because it's not like I could find a good job when I looked. I got laid off a steady (but low paying job) when the boss's niece needed a job. She had zero computer experience, but that doesn't matter in IT because it's so easy to bullshit through every job. You don't produce anything physical and the results from a job are so fuzzy. You can't fix a printer problem because printers are shit and the drivers are written by retards, so what did you do? Change the paper, who knows? I would spend days milking a printer problem because I knew something was going to break again regardless. I might as well smash it with a rock.

If you have some sort of brain problem and you actually like being a computer janitor, look at it like being an artist. You won't make money, but you get to do what you like. I'd rather get paid at work, thanks.

Also, you know that computer programming job? It was taken by a math grad student who learned C++ to help with his post-graduate work. He sleeps 5 hours a day and will work for peanuts.

My boss is thinking about picking up someone part time to help me out. Wont pay much but it would be good experience but he also only likes people whose hearts are really into it. It would be basic stuff, cleaning malware, building out workstations, moving boxes, cleaning. Near Citrus bowl, small IT firm

Send me a resumé. Kido 1986 @ gmail .com (removed all spaces)

No promises, all I can do is forward it

will stop shitting up my thread,

    also,

UCF does have someone dedicated to handling internships, but from the way I was told it works is people approach UCF, then UCF matches a student to them.

It's kind of messed up, especially because most of the people have outrageous requirements.

Convergys in Lake Mary is a good place to start, notice I said start not stay. They breed turn over as far as employees are concerned and even with no experience you can get hired there for around $8.50 per hour last I looked. There are not many places you can get a job in the IT industry with no experience and just a degree or some college under your belt but if you can stomach convergys for 6months it will be a stepping stone to bigger and better jobs.

You and I both know that but employers see it as experience. And it's a foot in the door to a better job. Hell I worked there twice, once when it was Matrix Marketing way back in the day. And it did help me get into bigger and better jobs down the road. Is it on my resume today, nope too far back in history. However with zero experience it can be a way for him to get some practical experience under his belt to working at say Century Link or AT&T or BHN tech support.

I worked at Convergys for 3 years, was making nearly $15/hr when I was a wee little Rick. I hated the work, but it paid the bills and i could sleep doing the work it was so simple. I was offered positions like trainer, manager, IT, etc... and i denied so I could work 8hrs a day playing sn00d. I got stuck in such a groove at that shitty place the only way to get me to quit and get a real job was to get myself fired.

How do you get fired at convergys? Do your job REALLY good. Very low call times, fix issues 1st call, pass every eval with 100%. My call times were HALF that of the next person. I was told to slow down and be part of the average or get fired for making everyone else look bad. I continued to make everyone look dumb and got fired and got a real job the following week LOL

You either really have no idea what you are talking about or have zero drive. I have plenty of friends who graduated ucf with less than a stellar gpa from the engineering college with CS, IT degrees and are making 50k/year. I mean anyone reading your post should have instantly stopped when you said your degree wouldn't get you far and so you dropped out.

OP pm me a resume and I think I know of a place (UCF grad's work OMG) you can get hired as entry level IT/programmer

Follow up: I know a guy who's whole entire department of 30 people got laid off when the company though they could save money by having the accounting clerks handle all IT duties instead.
