Miata Timing Belt Change

Hey Miata people,

I just got done with a Miata timing belt/waterpump/seal change. Considering this is still fresh on my mind, I am going to sell my services to anybody that may need their timing belt change on the miata. Just wanted to make a little side money if possible.

I'll keep it to 90-97 Miatas since it was the NA chassis I worked on. I have all necessary tools to do the job.

its the same for 89-05 miatas, the job is the same every year......did you replace the idler pulleys when you did the change, and what did you set the timing to. 14BTDC will give you a nice bump in power.

Changed the timing belt, water pump, tensioner and idler pulley, front crank seal, two cam seals, and accessory belts. Kept it at stock timing. Not big into power mods, more of a suspension person.

same with me, I put handling over power every time.....but.....

bumping up the timing give 10hp/10tq for FREE...wont affect your MPG and the power comes in the low and midrange.

I can understnad the 'not big into power mods' if i said add a turbo, or even a header or intake....but the timing gives you free power.....why not do it?

Does it require 93 octane gas?

if so I'd rather not. I already hate putting in god damn $30 of gas in my integra and it only uses cheap grade gas.

14*BTDC is the most you can do with regular 87 with no problems.

On my 99 i ran 14*BTDC with 87 octane and was getting 28mpg all the time, mostly city driving and I would always push the car when I drove.....lots of WOT.

on the highway, cruing at 4500-5000 rpm in 5th gear I got 32mpg....
