Sounds good guys...btw, as a teaser I will tell you that we dynoed the car today...I will only say that all went well, very well...I will be racing it Saturday night at OSW in the Summit event...if she runs anything like she sounds, man oh man!!!!....
I matted it from 2500 rpm on the dyno and it snapped to 6000 so hard and fast it scared me...great guggemugga!!...lol...
I will go into more later but thanks to everyone who helped me get this motor done at this time...most of all to Rob Reynolds who not only built it but got me great parts within my budget...Rob is as honest, up front and his word is gold...you cannot do better...thanks pal...
I look forward to many years of great racing with this bullet...it is a 461 BBC, Dart high rise intake and APD carb, 598/598 solid roller Comp cam, 10.7 CR, 93 octane pump gas...oh yeah...here is a pic from today...

Sounds like you're ready to go racing Fuzzy. I may go to CFRC tonight and get in the gambler's race. Depends on what time I get off work. Come out and make a couple of passes to get you ready for Sat at OSW. I think the rain will be all gone by tonight. We'll see.

Dan, thanks for the props. I definitely enjoyed working with you. You are one of the easiest going people I have ever been around. Super nice guy and I am glad to call you my friend. One thing though, your cam shaft is a solid lift cam, but not a roller. I know you already know that but you listed it as a roller , that damn vertigo LOL. Alright. See ya in a few hours.

I noticed that, Rob, but didn't want to ask... did you run his Camaro last evening, and if-so, how'd it do?

Thanks for the correction, Rob...you are correct, I am a bit goofy lately with this spinnin'....
I did get to run the car last night at OSW...we discovered two important things...first, the motor is real strong and runs great...second, we think we have a converter problem that needs a bit of tweaking...
I went 7.29 @ 94.40 last night...this with a shift point of 6000 rpm...I say that because the shift light came on only about 100' from launch for the 1-2 shift and about 200' out for the 2-3 shift...I was at 6000 rpm going through the traps in the 1/8...seems the converter is a little too loose...
This motor climbs to 6000 so fast it is crazy...then it continues to my rev limit of 6750 rpm in a blink of the eye....ask me how I know...lol...no doubt FTI will fix this issue and I will be all set to go...we are thinking 7 teens when all is well...
Thanks again Rob for the super motor...pump gas too...yippee!!!!

I spoke with Greg at FTI and then Rob, the engine builder...this motor likes to go so we will be testing on Wed. night with a higher shift point and also to see if I can get to the 1/4 mile pole under 7000 rpm...
It may not be the converter after all...we will get it right shortly...

I just got back from the track...I shifted at 6500 and the car liked it a lot better...no problems and never hit the rev limiter which I set at 7000 rpm...
She went 11.55 @ 116.42 mph...still spun some out of the hole...this was my first pass...on my second I screwed up and forgot the fans so I launched at 180* versus my normal 160*...she also spun real bad....ran 11.57 with bad increments before that...
On my third pass I screwed up again and launched in second gear...it's my own fault for trying to change too many things in my staging routine at once....I will fix that next time out...
My night ended at that point since the car threw the alt belt once again...I am going to attack that problem tomorrow morning and hope to fix it once and for all...
See everyone soon....
Dan

Sounds like you went a little slower than the previous 7.2? that you went last time. I think an 11.55 equates to about a 7.3?. But at least you are running it again and overall you are running faster. As for throwing the belt, it's either out of alignment or you need a deep groove pulley. See ya at the next race Dan. George

Yeah, it went a bit slower but ran good...the belt deal is getting aggravating...we spent all day today getting everything lined up just perfect...of course, we have done this twice before...the alternator pulley is a deep groove...it has thrown the belt every single time I run it...sheesh...
I think it is the bracket set up...if anyone is running a BBC with an alt I would love to see your bracket...there has to be a fix for this...I am running again on Saturday night so we'll see what happens then...
Oh yeah, the vertigo is back as of this morning...fooey.....

George, I believe it went 7.29 (1st night out) and 7.31 last night. Not to far off for a guy that stays dizzy and is trying a few new things at the starting line. I don't know if the track was off a little last night or not, the truck i was driving hooks in the dirt LOL. Dan, we can put a low mount alt. kit on it, at the time I was trying to save you any money we could so I used that moroso pice and made the extra brace. But if we can get you a serpentine set-up either from march (costly) or junk-yard /anyone with an older (85+)BBC that doesnt need the pulleys that will SOLVE any problems. I'm telling you serpentine is the only way to go. Hope you guys at least have it fixed til we can fix it right LOL. Good luck Saturday, I wont be there this week, but I will see you next weekend. Or before if you need me. Not sure what Im driving next week yet, the truck likes me, I was .017, .023, .017 again last night and truck was consistent even after a serious oil down in my lane that thing went right down broadway.

Dan, make sure that neither the pulley at the alternator or harmonic balancer are wobbling for any reason. If the alternator brackets are not sturdy enough, the alternator itself may be vibrating and causing the belt to come off. Rev it up and look at the pullies and belt. The belt should not flap up and down, the alternator should not vibrate and both pullies should spin without side to side or up and down wobbles. If this is all ok the belt should not come off. The shorter distance between the alternator and the crank pulley, the less likely the belt is to come off so low mount should help. I'm out of ideas except what Rob said about the serpentine setup. You can always take the alternator off and get a few more ponies and put up with the hassle of charging the battery after every run like I do. I'm sure you'll get it worked out eventually. Look into what you are eating that may be causing the vertigo thing. Keep your cholesterol and sugar levels in check as this may also cause this condition. I get it on and off also. Take care, George

The motor is running fine...the driver, not so much...lol...anyway, I am going to try it again tomorrow with the latest repairs...if it chucks another belt then I need to find a permanent fix that don't break the bank...the alt and balancer are rock solid...it used to vibrate but no more...
I have been playing with my staging routine and completely goofed up the other night...that stuff is over and all will be well from here on out...
What is bizaare about this vertigo is I have not changed anything including diet and it comes and goes by it's own self...sheesh...

Thanks Guys,
I appreciate the offers, Manny was tied up and the new tranny & converter needed to be tested before next week at wpb. race. good thing we tested it because the case was cracked, it is now out and we are headed to hilliard in the am tues. morning. We only ran .07 off the record with a broken trans so hopefully when all things get straight Manny will have a top notch piece to go with his top notch driving skills.Roger, i will call you, i need to get a set of rockers and some other parts.I wont be seeing all of you for 3 weeks due to my schedule, WPB, then Rockingham, then Pittsburg,Pa. then I will be home.I really like the racers fron CFRC
Jim
