My skid plate from Diesel Geek has arrived. I figured its a whole lot cheaper than buying a new oil pan or even a whole new engine. There is an OEM add on available from the New Beetle convertible that fits all MK4 Jetta/Golfs (2.0, 1.8T, 2.8, 3.2) as well but its heavier and more expensive. I had a close encounter due to a friend not knowing where reverse is on my car which caused some DEEP scratches on the oil pan. I figured why take the chance a second time.

Now I just gotta figure out what this piece is and where to attach it. Unfortunately, Diesel Geek did not include any instructions

Quite strong too :)

This is the OEM Skid Plate that comes on the New Beetle convertible that I was referring to. It sits a tad lower and has air space in between the oil pan and the skid plate. I think it weighs 30+ lbs as well where as the Diesel Geek plate is under 18 lbs. It has better airflow so thats a plus.

It comes black just so everyone is aware.

Its not on yet. I just got it from the FedEx guy a few hours ago. The picture of the plate being held by the jack is from diesel geeks site in the link I provided.

If your skid-plate sits flush with the oil-pan, you're not worried about cooling at all? Seems like your oil will never have a chance to cool off.

Maybe we should get the sawz-all out and cut some air vents! The thought has been in mind but I would imagine that things will still be ok. Its not as if I have forced induction on my car.

Skid plate has been installed. The whole process was incredibly easy. If anyone decides to order one and needs a hand, I would be more than happy to help. If I wasnt doing something else at the same time, I think the install would have taken no more than 45 minutes. Here are some pictures. The only problem with the install was that I did have to cut some plastic. Not that big of a deal though. The marked lines are where I wanted to cut a hole, but I dont have the proper tools at this time.

This screw in the middle of the picture was a pain to put in. It was worse than prom night!

Nice clean underbody. No more fears of a damaged oil pan.

Not the pretties cut, but it is the best fitting. Only took two attempts amazingly.

The plastic guard that comes with the car must be removed permanently. There are two engine side skirts that have to be cut (but will never be seen). The two plastic pieces that you see in my pictures that are cut is optional. You don't even have to have those pieces on the car anymore.
